100 Modern Blocks: Block 15

Here we are with the final block in the Crosses chapter! This final block was fun to do with the Lazy Stripes and Kona Ivy – I had fun playing with the lines on the crosses in this block. I am looking forward to starting the Rectangles chapter next week. Now back to cutting and sewing for 20 more blocks!

Block No 15

Fabrics used in this block:
The Birds & The Bees: Lazy Stripe in Pond
Kona Solid: Ivy

100 Modern Blocks: Block 14

This block was quick and fun to put together, and it uses my favorite greens. I just love the Swallow Skies fabric pattern, and add in the two Kona Solid colors Avocado and Cactus and you have a nice gradated block.

100 Modern Blocks: Block 13

Looking at the quilting on this block in the book leaves me to wonder exactly how I will finish it, once all the blocks are made. We’re still a long ways off from that though, so back to the blocks…

I used three fabrics in this block – the Ladybugs fabric, and 2 Kona Solids: Windsor and Hibiscus. This block was a little trickier, with more pieces than other blocks, but it still came together nicely:

100 Modern Blocks: Block 12

Like the other cross blocks in this chapter, this block came together quickly and easily. I was able to use the same ladybugs as in the example, and for my solid, I used Kona Zucchini.

The Birds & The Bees: Ladybugs in Apple

100 Modern Blocks: Block 11

Back to the blocks. I finished these blocks a while ago, before Christmas, but never got a chance to photograph them. Between the gloomy days and needing a better photographing board, I was stuck. But now I have a 12″ x 12″ magnetic frame, created just for photographing smaller blocks such as this. So here goes… Block 11 came together fairly smoothly, in both cutting and sewing together. Using only 2 fabrics, it still manages to pop the Flame of the Kona solid, in relation to The Tree of Life fabric.

The Birds & The Bees: Tree of Life in Honey
Kona Solid: Flame

100 Modern Blocks: Block No. 10

For the final block this week, from the City Sampler: 100 Modern Blocks project, here is Block No. 10. Again, really easy to cut and piece together, having only 2 fabrics. I photographed the orientation based on the book, but in the end I may change it, as that bird may bug me. The Kona solid used here is Jade Green.

Well that covers the 5 block assignments for this week. I will be back next week with 5 more, finishing the Crosses chapter. See you then!

The Birds & The Bees: Little Bits in Pool

100 Modern Blocks: Block No. 9

The City Sampler: 100 Modern Blocks: Block No. 9 was fun to do, as there were no solid colors to choose, just 2 prints. I selected The Birds & The Bees Tree of Life design in Mist, and the coordinating Lazy Stripes, also in Mist.

Just a few more blocks in this chapter. Back tomorrow with Block No. 10.

Fabrics used in this block:
The Birds & The Bees: Tree of Life in Mist
The Birds & The Bees: Lazy Stripes in Mist

100 Modern Blocks: Block No. 8

With this block, once again I had a hard time finding some purple colors that I thought went well with the colors and style of the block and fabric, so I ended up going with some lighter coordinating Kona Solids of Lavender and Lilac. This block came together really well, and I was happy at how well all the 1-inch seams lined up!

100 Modern Blocks: Block No. 6

Well Good Morning to you! I am a little behind on posting my City Sampler blocks, but I have been diligently working on them. I am here to show you Block No. 6 from my City Sampler: 100 Modern Blocks project.

All of the blocks so far have been nice and fairly simple to cut out, and pretty quick to sew together. I think it takes longer to select the fabric and coordinating solids, and then time to cut out, than it does to sew the block together and move on to the next. This last group that I have been working on, I selected fabrics for the last 10 blocks of the chapter, then I selected the solids, then I cut all the fabric at the same time. After that it was quick and easy to sew them together one by one. My biggest hurdle in this process is finding the right light and location to take the photos – it has been dark and gloomy in Seattle the past few days, but today looks a little better. Hopefully I can get some of my 12 Days of Christmas photos today and post the rest of the projects for you. Anyways… this block came together quickly and lined up nicely. The Kona Solid used in this block is Caramel.

100 Modern Blocks: Block No. 7

Hello again – I am back to share my City Sampler: 100 Modern Blocks: Block No. 7 with you. Once again, this block was so quick to cut out, and even faster so sew together. I was so pleased with just how well all the pieces lined up, how well the seams matched together. For this block, I cut out a section of The Birds & The Bees tree fabric, divided it into 4 sections, and then added the coordinating low-contrast solids. I didn’t want an overwhelming center cross, more of a subtle color play with the focus on that gorgeous rust color. I like how all these colors work together. The Kona Solids used in this block are Curry and Yarrow.
