Perpetual Calendar

I was finally able to get some photos of the perpetual calendar that I made – this is what I created the Coverable Button Pattern Template for in the previous post. The only part that I’m not really pleased with is the numbers on the buttons. It was supposed to be stamped numbers on a light colored background (like the month tabs) which would have worked out great. Except that the fabrics I was given were all dark in color, making it difficult for any stamp color to work. I instead used gold embossing powder and did dry it with a tool, however it’s still glittering, and some are more difficult to read. If I do this project again I will use lighter colors for the buttons, and I think I might reverse the whole thing. Ideas are forming, but it will be awhile before I do this one again!

Check out the photo of the fabrics I was given to work with, and the end result.

P.S. If you want to make your own button calendar, I based mine off the one found in the book I Love Patchwork: 21 Irresistable Zakka Projects to Sew. But after doing some calculations I had to change the final size and number of date squares, as you would run out of room if a month with 30 or 31 days started on a Friday or Saturday. Keep this in mind if you decide to make your own – just a helpful little hint!
